Assertion failed - I2 alpha stuff
Well, fellas, this has me stumped. My "font" project worked just fine (albeit slow on my HP2000). Then I added in the alpha stuff as per lesson I2. It builds fine and runs, but there are two problems. First, the numbers in the speed test text at the top of the window don't change. In fact, they're a...

Re: Pointers, references and values
Yes, sorry. I meant "FILE* pFile" and "FILE *pFile" I seen things written both ways with any data type - I'm only talking about whether the '*' is attached to the type or to the variable. And...a function declared as... void func( char* var ) {} ...would be called like... char var[ 5 ]; func( var );...

Re: Pointers, references and values
I have an okay handle on using pointers, but there are little things that I don't quite get, like the difference between...
void function( char *var ) {}
and...
void function( char &var ) {}
And is "FILE* pFile " vs "File *pFile" the same and just a matter of preference?

If I didn't have the "Classic Desktop" to work from, I'd set this bitch afire. I like the idea of the Start Menu, but not the execution. Why is IE from Start different than IE from Desktop? Silly. I'm not a big fan of the "Immersive" app deal. Gimme a resizable window with a "Full Screen" option any...

Orange. Because pears don't have sections.

Hey, all. I just finished B22. Great stuff so far. I'm hooked. Wish I coulda met Mr. Chili 20 years ago. I started programming in '82 writing basic on a TRS-80. Got into building my own hardware with parts for a 8088. When I moved up to a 286, I started learning C/C++ by modifying a WWIV bbs (v 3.x ...

Re: Tell us about you chili!
My mother and her other kids lived in Japan for a while. They did the Rosetta Stone thing and got by okay. Moms claimed to love it, but they all seemed quite happy when it came time to move to Germany.
